The amendment of the electoral legislation will facilitate the exercise of the right to vote by citizens from the diaspora

The proposals to amend the Electoral Code and the related legislation, as well as the Concept of the internet voting system "e-Voting" were presented today at the Discussion Forum "Implementation of Electronic Voting in Moldova and the Right to Vote of the Moldovan Diaspora", organized by the International Republican Institute. The event gathered representatives of the diplomatic service from Moldova, political parties, local and international non-governmental organizations, state institutions involved in the process of implementing electronic voting.

During the presentation, Alexandr Berlinschii referred to the main aspects of the organization and conduct of elections abroad from the draft of the new Electoral Code regarding. According to them, it is proposed that the Elections Day shall be the Saturday, and, for objective reasons, some Precinct Electoral Bureaus could hold their activity during 2 days (on Friday and Saturday).

Other discussed aspects referred to the criteria proposed for the decision to establish the number of polling stations, as well as the composition of the electoral bodies responsible for the preparation and conduct of the poll.

Special attention was paid to the subject of internet voting. Alexandr Berlinschii pointed out that by implementing this system, the voting process will be more accessible, the voting time will be reduced and the queues at the polling stations will be eliminated. "Electronic voting also has a number of benefits, such as: voter comfort, efficiency, guaranteeing the exercise of the right to vote for citizens from abroad or those unable to come to the polling station", mentioned the CEC Secretary.

We remind that the proposals for amending the Electoral Code and the Internet Voting Concept "e-Voting" were recently approved by the CEC, and the documents were sent to the Parliament and the Government for consideration.
