Constitutional referendum and presidential elections in 23 days

CEC presented preliminary results in Moldova’s presidential election of 15 November 2020

According to preliminary data, 1,650,131 voters attended the presidential election in Moldova, which represents a participation rate of over 52%.

Those who came to exercise their right to vote in the second round on 15 November this year had the following age profiles: 18 to 25 y.o. – 8.44%; 26 to 40 y.o. – 24.58%; 41 to 55 y.o. – 24.78%; 56 to 70 y.o. – 31.93%; over 71 y.o. – 10.27%.

Out of the total number of voters who showed up at the ballot boxes, 45.67% were male and 54.33% were female.

Polling stations opened abroad recorded the biggest number of voters (260,079) in the history of national elections.

The following 10 polling stations showed the most active participation:

1/343 – Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, France;

1/397 – Northampton, UK;

1/395 – London, UK;

1/393 – London, UK;

1/394 – London, UK;

1/340 – Paris, France;

1/348 – Berlin, Germany;

1/349 – Frankfurt am Main, Germany;

1/369 – Parma, Italy;

1/344 – Montreuil, France.

99.91% of precinct electoral bureau minutes have been processed so far, which means that the data are preliminary until the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has received all original electoral documentation.

Thus, preliminary results show that voter preferences have been distributed as follows:

Maia Sandu – 941,574 votes, or 57.71%

Igor Dodon – 690,027 votes, or 42.29%

The Electoral Code stipulates that the candidate who gains most votes in the second round wins the presidential election.

According to the same legal provisions, CEC has 5 days to make the final election minutes and later, within 3 days from signing the minutes, it shall submit a voting results report to the Constitutional Court.
