The management of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) had a meeting with the head of the Office for Europe of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), Sam van Der Staak, during which an exchange of views was made on the activities carried out in order to ensure a fair, accessible and transparent electoral process.

In this context, the President of the CEC, Angelica Caraman, spoke about the priority areas on the institution's agenda: electoral reform, modernization and digitization of electoral processes, as well as strengthening the capacities to ensure the transparency of the financial management of political parties and electoral campaigns.

Sam van Der Staak appreciated the initiatives launched by the CEC, noting at the same time that the biggest challenge in achieving them is society's trust in the announced reforms.

The discussions of the officials also referred to other electoral topics, for which IDEA offers its support in offering expertise and sharing experience: ensuring a balance between the use of personal data and the control process of political financing and the regulation and monitoring of the conduct of electoral campaigns in the online and social media environment.

The parties reconfirmed their openness to continue collaboration for the development of electoral processes in our country.
