Having been addressed by an electoral competitor about the problems they had faced while trying to receive banking services, the Central Electoral Commission notified the National Bank of Moldova, banking institutions, the Parliamentary Commission for Economy, Budget and Finance and the National Commission for Financial Market.
CEC, as an independent agency charged with controlling the financing of electoral campaigns and political parties and supervising compliance with the terms of the Electoral Code and other legal provisions concerning the election process, is critical about banking institutions’ treatment of Violeta Ivanov, candidate running for President of the Republic of Moldova on behalf of Shor Party. The Commission believes that disadvantages are artificially created for other election candidates, which violates the legal principle that electoral competitors should have an equal access to funds and equal rights to spend such funds.
This said, CEC calls for the attention of banking institutions, and asks the Parliamentary Commission for Economy, Budget and Finance and the National Commission for Financial Market to investigate the case and make sure that all electoral competitors have full and equal rights concerning the financing of the current electoral campaigns.
