CEC held a roundtable on the analysis of the recommendations of international observation missions, the opinions of the Venice Commission, and the decisions of the Constitutional Court

The Central Electoral Commission organized a roundtable video conference today, October 22, with the subject: “Analysis of the recommendations of the international election observation missions, the opinions of the Venice Commission and the decisions of the Constitutional Court on electoral legislation. The event was held in partnership with the Council of Europe and aimed to analyze the recommendations of the election observation missions that emphasize the need to improve electoral legislation.

In her welcome message, the President of the Central Electoral Commission, Angelica Caraman, noted that the topic chosen for today's discussions is of major importance and topicality, based on the priorities announced by the new composition of the Commission, which is committed to improving the legal framework related to the electoral field that will lead to the improvement of the electoral processes in accordance with the best international standards in the field.

Council of Europe experts presented the results of a comprehensive study of key findings and conclusions following recommendations from international election observation missions (OSCE / ODIHR, CoE, EU), the Venice Commission's views on changes to electoral legislation and the legislation on political financing, as well as the decisions of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova on the electoral legislation for the period 2014-2021. In the same context, the Promo-LEX Association also reviewed the level of (non)implementation of the recommendations of the Promo-LEX Election Observation Missions conducted during the same period.

The participants  concluded about the need to adjust the electoral legal framework and improve the electoral practices, which is why they showed their openness for support and involvement in the process.
