CEC started printing ballot papers for the general local election of November 5, 2023

Today, October 25, the Central Electoral Commission started printing ballot papers for the general local election of November 5, 2023.

The 7,893 template ballot papers for the general local election will be printed by three printing houses contracted by the CEC: I.S. "Combinatul POLIGRAFIC", I.S. F.E.P. "Tipografia Centrală" and I.S. "Editura Universul".

A total of 7,669,667 ballot papers will be printed, including 6,068,878 in Romanian and 1,600,789 in Russian.

Out of them, 2,143,410 pink ballot papers (1,734,088 in Romanian and 409,322 in Russian) will be meant for the election of mayors; 2,143,410 smoky gray ballot papers (1,734,088 in Romanian and 409,322 in Russian) will be printed for the positions of level I councilor;

2,632,947 beige ballot papers (2,110,523 in Romanian and 522,424 in Russian) will be printed for the positions of district/municipal councilor; and a total of 749,900 purple ballot papers (490,179 in Romanian and 259,721 in Russian) will be printed for the position of Mayor General of Chisinau and Mayor of Balti.

The length of the ballot papers varies depending on the number of candidates listed on a ballot paper. The shortest ballot papers, about 10cm long, are for the localities where only one candidate was registered. The longest ballot paper is 75cm long and lists 30 registered candidates for the position of councilor for the local council of Congaz village in Gagauzia.

Ballot papers for Chisinau and Comrat municipal councils, where 35 and 56 candidates were registered, respectively, will be printed in the form of a brochure.

The price of a ballot paper depends on its length and ranges from MDL 0.57 to MDL 0.93, except for brochure-type ballot papers which cost MDL 1.25 for the municipality of Chisinau and MDL 4.35 for the municipality of Comrat.

The total value of all ballot papers printed for the general local election is MDL 5.7 million.
