In the context of the examination by the Supreme Court of Justice of the transfer of the appeal request, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) informs the public opinion about the subsequent actions related to the conduct of the second round of elections in Bălți. We emphasize that the basic request examined by the appellate court has as object the cancellation of the registration of the electoral contestant Marina Tauber, appointed by the Political Party “Şor” to the position of mayor of Bălți.
In these conditions and taking into account the fact that until the opening of the polling stations there are countless hours, the CEC announces that the members are waiting for the final and enforceable decision of the appellate court to comment on all issues related to subsequent election procedures.
If the court rejects the appeal declared by the Commission, quashing the decision of the Bălți Court, or does not express its position until the beginning of the voting process, the 60 polling stations in Bălți will open as usual, at 7:00, for the conduct of the second round.
If the Court of Appeal upholds the decision of the Court of the first instance regarding the cancellation of the electoral contestant's registration, regardless of the time of the decision, the members of the Commission will meet urgently in extraordinary session to comment on the conduct of the second round, if the requirements provided by art.145 par. (2) of the Electoral Code are not met.
