Strengthening the bilateral cooperation in the administration of elections in the Republic of Moldova and Romania

The Chairperson of the Central Electoral Commission, Angelica Caraman, hosted the Chairperson of the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania, Constantin-Florin Mitulețu Buicӑ. The Romanian delegation is, on an official visit to Chisinau, between June 24-27, 2022.

During today's meeting, the CEC leadership highlighted the importance of this visit, which strengthens the collaboration established and developed over the years, based on the ties between our countries and, in particular, the electoral institutions we represent.

Angelica Caraman thanked for the support offered by the authorities in Bucharest to the European path of the Republic of Moldova and for the support in the implementation of policies for the development of democratic processes in our country.

On the agenda of the officials' discussions were current topics in the electoral field, including the electoral reform initiated by the CEC, the digitization of electoral processes and the implementation of information technologies in elections, the control of political financing and ensuring the right to vote of citizens from outside the country.

Other topics to be addressed during the visit of the AEP delegation concern the field of electoral communication, ensuring institutional transparency and promoting the image of electoral management bodies both during the elections and in the period between the polls.

The parties expressed strong commitment and common interest in further developing and strengthening bilateral cooperation between our institutions.

The study visit was organized on the basis of the Collaboration Agreement in the electoral field concluded between the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova and the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania on November 11, 2019, and contributes to the deepening of inter-institutional cooperation by carrying out an exchange of experience in electoral matters.
