The general local election is taking place in Moldova today, November 5, 2023. Citizens are to elect 898 mayors and 11,058 councilors to level I and level II local councils.

The CEC announces that the 1,958 polling stations arranged for holding the election opened at 07:00.

Out of all candidates, 3,297 persons were registered in the election race for 898 mayor seats and 45,775 persons — for 11,058 councilor seats.

A total of 2,758,810 voters are expected at the ballot box.

The CEC printed 7,669,667 ballot papers for the general local election, including 6,068,878 in Romanian and 1,600,789 in Russian.

The CEC announces that no election for the office of mayor will be held in 2 localities — Chioselia Rusa and Cotovscoe, Gagauzia, while voters in the village of Cealic, Taraclia district will not participate in elections for the local council. Only one candidate for the office of mayor and, accordingly, a single electoral contestant was registered in each of the two localities. Therefore, their registration was ordered to be canceled. In other 45 localities, voters will find only one candidate for the mayor's office in the ballot papers, and in 21 localities — only one candidate for the local council.

A polling station in the town of Cantemir has suspended the voting process because ballot papers need to be reprinted. The process will resume once the situation is resolved.

A total of 1,092 national and 401 international observers were accredited for today's election.
