Ten institutions signed a Memorandum by which they took the commitment to ensure the realization of the political rights of persons with disabilities

Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Center for Continuous Training in the Electoral Field (CICDE) and eight non-governmental organizations: MOTIVATION Association from Moldova, Center for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Deaf Association from the Republic of Moldova, the Blind Association from Moldova, the Alliance of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities from the Republic of Moldova, the "LOW VISION" Medical-Social Rehabilitation Center for People with Low Vision, the RADIOVISION Public Association, the INFONET Public Alliance signed today, March 23rd, 2023, a Memorandum of Collaboration.

The document aims to ensure the cooperate and to facilitate the communication between CEC, CICDE and non-governmental organizations in order to initiate the implementation of standards, norms and good practices in the field of ensuring electoral rights and the inclusion in electoral processes for voters with disabilities, as well as other categories of people with special needs.

The Chairperson of the CEC, Angelica Caraman, mentioned that, in its capacity as a state body established for the organization and conduct of elections, the Commission continuously undertakes actions aimed at ensuring the accessibility of the electoral process for people with disabilities, and the integration of effective inclusion mechanisms is one among the main objectives, established in the Strategic Plan of the institution for the years 2020-2023.

For his part, the Executive Director of the INFONET Alliance, Victor Koroli, emphasized that this Memorandum opens new opportunities for the development of joint programs and projects aimed at increasing the accessibility of the electoral process for people with special needs.

The parties have committed to support each other in the development, organization and implementation of various activities in the field, to carry out information campaigns in an accessible format for voters with disabilities, as well as to identify solutions for improving the legal framework and electoral procedures from the perspective of the disability dimension.
