Voters will elect 898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors during the local general election of November 5, 2023, including 9,972 village (commune) and town councilors and 1,086 district/municipal councilors.

According to legal provisions, the number of councilor seats in local councils to be given following the general local election was determined based on the number of residents of administrative territorial units as of January 1, 2023, as per the State Population Register data provided by the Public Services Agency.

Thus, out of the 32 district councils, 2 will receive 35 mandates, 20 will receive 33 mandates and 10 will receive 27 mandates. In the municipality of Chisinau, the municipal council will include 51 mandates, and in the municipality of Balti it will consist of 35 councilors.

Another 9,972 local councilor mandates will be issued in other towns and villages of the country. Most of the village (commune) and town councils will be given 27 mandates each in 6 localities, 23 mandates each in 23 localities, 17 mandates each in 17 localities, 15 mandates each in 19 localities, 13 mandates each in 182 localities, 11 mandates each in 250 localities and 9 mandates each in 399 localities.

In the 2019 general local election, a total of 11,580 councilors were elected to local councils, including 1,108 level II councilors and 10,472 level I councilors.
