Today members of the Central Electoral Commission had a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI), where the participants looked back at the actions taken to organize, on 30 October 2016, the presidential election abroad and identified solutions for better management of the second round of the presidential election to take place on 15 November this year.

The parties agreed that institutional cooperation between CEC and MfAEI had been constructive, mentioning that it was our duty to create optimum conditions and identify mechanisms to facilitate access to voting, so that more Moldovan citizens abroad could exercise their civil right freely and without hindrance.

Under the electoral law, the second round of election will be organized and carried out under the same conditions and the first round (same councils and electoral bureaus, same voter lists, etc.).

Realizing that the diaspora could show a higher attendance at the ballot boxes in the second round compared to 1 November, yesterday’s CEC meeting decided to print more ballot papers for some polling stations outside the country, as well as hire new electoral bureau officials. At the same time, following an assessment of election logistics, polling stations that recorded a high participation rate in the first round will be supplied with additional ballot boxes and voting booths.

For a better management of the voting process and better voter access, some polling stations will change their address, and such decisions shall be made public.

CEC and MFAEI repeatedly call for voting Moldovan citizens who will be abroad on the day of the second round of the presidential election to take advantage of the opportunities created for them and vote at one of the 139 polling stations open abroad.
